Welcome

Hello and welcome to my website. My name is Filipe Rodrigues and I am a Bristol based hypnotherapist. I useRegistered Clinical Hypnotherapist Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) as an approach, successfully helping clients regain control of their lives. I am dedicated to helping people overcome unwanted behaviours and thoughts, and have a firm belief in the strengths and resources we all posses to achieve what we want in life. As an SFBT hypnotherapist I ascribe to the ethical value of providing clients with the most effective treatment in the most time efficient manner possible so that clients can get on with living their lives. More about Filipe

Hypnotherapy GoalsWhat is clinical hypnotherapy and how can it help?

Clinical hypnotherapy, as the name suggests, is therapeutic intervention that includes the application of hypnosis. We all have strengths and resources available to us to be happier, cope better, be more confident, regain lost control...whatever the goal clinical hypnotherapy uncovers those capabilities and is known for its rapid results. Intellectually, on a conscious level you may already know what needs to be done to better yourself, but can't seem to do it on will alone. Research has shown that most irrational, instinctive and over emotional responses stem from what is known as the subconscious mind. Clinical hypnotherapy is a means of accessing and influencing the subconscious mind. In Bristol hypnotherapy is a popular and effective treatment for a number of conditions, helping people achieve their goals.

What exactly is the hypnotic state/trance in clinical hypnotherapy?

Trance is a state of awareness where it becomes possible to tap into those deep unconscious resources we all possess, allowing us to make desired changes. To be in a trance does not mean to be asleep, although it can sometimes look that way, but in fact the opposite is true.  Studies of the brain activity of people in trance have revealed an increased level of alertness. So rather then it been a sleep it is actually a state of focus. Everyone has experienced trance many times, though most people don't know it as trance. We all go in and out of this state several times a day. Have you ever found yourself so engrossed in the storyline of a movie or book, to the complete exclusion of the room and people around you? That is an example of trance that most people can relate to.

Healing by trance is among the oldest phenomena known to man and is found, in one form or another, in virtually every culture throughout the world. It is an enormously useful therapeutic tool. Once in a state of hypnotic relaxation, the subconscious mind is able to absorb information, suggestion and other content which bring about therapeutic changes. Suggestions (direct and indirect), therapeutic interventions, visualisation and language structures are utilised in this state, so you can achieve something you want, or something that will benefit you, and in this hypnotic state, that acceptance goes even deeper than it would in non-hypnotic states.  Since the subconscious mind is a deeper-seated, more instinctive force than the conscious mind, when accessed, therapeutically, many desired behavioural and cognitive changes are achievable.

So we can see that really hypnosis, in clinical hypnotherapy, is the focused use of trance to reprogram self-limiting unconscious patterns. It is a perfectly natural, relaxing and enjoyable state that can make the world of difference to breaking the cycle of habits, reducing anxiety, lifting depression, overcoming fears, phobias and more.

Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT)?SFBT

SFBT is one of the fastest growing approaches in psychotherapy and with good reason. It is acknowledged as a brief and effective treatment for a wide range of conditions in fields such as mental health, social care, education and business.  SFBT is a short term goal-focused therapeutic approach which focuses on helping individuals change by constructing solutions rather than investigating problems.

A core belief is that people have the strength, wisdom and experience to effect change and the key to change is found by looking at what has worked in the past, what is working now and what can be done differently moving forward. The approach is particularly effective in treating depression and anxiety disorders and can bring about rapid change.

The length of treatment is normally under ten sessions but can vary. Fears & phobias or getting over a traumatic experience can generally be dealt with in two or three session. As part of the approach a free CD will be provided to listen to in your free time. This is an important part of the treatment as it ensures, between sessions, the mind stays focused and comes up with solutions.
